@christian_blowes: Sometimes the most unexpected things stay with you once you become open to different forms of art. I never would have imagined that a horror novel could influence the way I pictured Lowlyland. I kept coming back to this image: A tightly packed town filled with people who ignored the call of their own potential. In a way, I think most of us live in Lowlyland at some point. We choose distraction over confronting the uncomfortable truth of who we are. Because when you actually sit still with your life, it can feel overwhelming. Sometimes, the reality of it seems like more than we know how to carry. Maybe that’s why we binge shows, endlessly scroll through videos, stay busy, or find countless other ways to avoid ourselves. Because turning inward means confronting the parts we’d rather leave untouched—our flaws, our mistakes, our addictions, our deeply ingrained habits, and perhaps most painfully, our past. But like most things we fear, the reality can be less frightening once we finally face it. Maybe the first step toward genuinely loving ourselves isn’t becoming someone else. Maybe it’s finding the courage to look honestly at who we already are.
