I took him to the vet — and luckily, someone was willing to adopt him right away. The vet said it was just heavy tartar; his teeth need a cleaning.

Thank goodness someone adopted this poor little guy. The truth is, tartar in dogs is largely preventable. As a vet, I want every pet owner to know this: brushing three times a week plus a daily dental chew goes a long way. And sure, some dogs just won't hold still for a toothbrush — in that case, mix Pofozo Dental Powder into their food every day, and within a couple of weeks you should notice the bad breath easing up.
