A marriage (AND WEDDING!) is 50/50! Not 70/maybe 25! If he wants his friends and coworkers there, CUT YOUR FAMILY LIST DOWN OR FORK OVER THE EXTRA CASH! How would she feel if this were reversed onto her?! She’d throw a FIT if the situation were reversed! Hope either she wakes up and treats him right or he sees the red flags and RUNS FOR THE HILLS!

Damn this is literally me. I have 13 siblings, and my mom has 10. Multicultural family. And my fiancé has met the main branch and most of the side branches. But when we think of the wedding, it’s a head ache. Especially if we count the elders. We both feel bad, and haven’t even counted our friends.

I had this same dynamic at my wedding. As a result, I didn’t know about 70% of the ppl who attended. I felt like I was in a sea of strangers and it would have been really nice to have some “friends” there for me. I should have just paid for the extra co-workers in retrospect. We were already over budget and paying ourselves, but even 30 years later I still regret this. Even though I’ve lost touch will all those coworkers it was still not as comfortable on my day as it could have been. I felt like a guest at a party full of ppl I don’t know. After the wedding we never saw half of these “close family members” again.

Only 2/3 of people will actually come anyway. 🤷♀️

I feel like she is only thinking about the people she wants to invite and he’s only asking for some coworkers. I understand families coming in all shapes and sizes, but there should be a limit and you guys should both agree on who goes or he gets half the guest and you get the other half or you’re gonna have to cut back on stuff are these family members you see all the time or are you inviting them because a family member is feeling left out just think about it

There’s some missing information here in order to make an informed judgment. Who’s paying for the wedding? If the parents are paying for the wedding, then whoever is paying the lion share tells the other side how many people there are allowed to have. If they go over that number, then they have to cover the cost of those people. I come from a very large family and this is how we did it with my wedding and it worked out very well. If the couple is paying for the wedding, family comes first, but sometimes you do have to draw a line. That line might be an age limit or not inviting people with a guest in order to accommodate the husband’s wishes of who he wants to invite.

This feels a little selfish of OP. His co-workers may be his chosen family like you said. There's so much more information I would need to give an answer

My question would be ... How extended are the people she's calling family? Does your future husband know all of them? Since her family makes up 70% of the current guest list he should be able to add a few people on his side.

I think it’s fair because it isn’t the brides wedding alone. It’s their day to share and he deserves to have almost as many people there for him as for her. I’m also guessing that he hasn’t even met every single person in her family…

Personally why invite anyone family or friend who doesn’t know both bride and groom? She doesn’t need to have every family member at her wedding especially if they don’t know the groom and he also doesn’t need to invite a bunch of coworkers she don’t know. If the can’t come to an agreement on who to cut then pay the money to have them all.

She’s an ah. Sorry but true. You should want your immediate family and then his family whether that be coworkers or distant 7th cousins. Let him have 50% of the guest list also. You don’t need 7th times removed there that you haven’t seen in 15 years just to please good ole grandma.
