Have a camera but feel overwhelmed by all the settings? This is your starting point. Learning photography doesn’t mean understanding everything in one day—or buying the most expensive gear. Start with the basics, practice with what you have, and give yourself permission to make mistakes. I put together these beginner-friendly photography cheat sheets to help you understand what your settings do and become more intentional with your photos. Swipe through and save them for your next practice session! APERTURE: Controls how much light enters through your lens and affects how much of your photo is in focus. A lower f-number can help blur the background; a higher f-number gives you more depth of field. SHUTTER SPEED: Controls how long your sensor collects light. A faster shutter helps freeze movement, while a slower shutter can show motion blur. ISO: Helps you adjust image brightness. With aperture and shutter speed unchanged, increasing ISO makes your image brighter, although noise may become more visible. The ISO guide gives you starting points—not fixed settings for every situation. COMPOSITION: Think about where you place your subject, what’s in the background, and how lines or framing guide the viewer’s eye. Sometimes changing your position makes a bigger difference than changing your camera. CAMERA TYPES: Knowing the difference between DSLR, mirrorless, and other cameras helps you understand your equipment—but you can start learning with the camera you already own. Here’s a simple practice idea: photograph the same subject several times, changing only one setting at a time. Compare the results and notice what changed. That’s how these numbers start making sense! I’m still learning and growing, too, and I love sharing simple explanations along the way. Save this post, share it with a friend who’s starting photography, and tell me: which topic confuses you most—aperture, shutter speed, or ISO? 👇 Follow Lina Photography for more beginner tips and behind-the-scenes practice. #PhotographyForBeginners #PhotographyTips #PhotographyCheatSheet #CameraSettings #LearnPhotography
