First thing we learn in the Netherlands. Block BOTH lanes before turning. You know in forehand, that other traffic has no clue how a truck works.

protect yourself and cover your inside Lane with the back of your trailer, with your tractor covering the inside lane. Make your button hook as you normally would. The off-track on your trailer will protect your lane.
