His cruelty isn't irrational — it's the output of a value system that decided empathy was a design flaw a long time before we ever meet him. He kills Esidisi and Wamuu without hesitation the moment they threaten his ascension, and the show doesn't even frame it as a betrayal on his end. It's just what perfection does to loose ends. And then there's Kars and beauty — the aesthetics of him are doing so much narrative work. He's the only Pillar Man drawn with genuine elegance instead of raw muscularity, all clean lines and near-androgynous symmetry, because his entire worldview is that ugliness is a kind of failure. He talks about flowers, about admiring beautiful things, and it never reads as softness — it reads as a collector's appreciation, the same impulse that makes him casually decide humans are just raw material. He's capable of noticing beauty and still incapable of caring about anything that isn't useful to him. That combination is rarer in villains than people think; usually you get "loves beauty, therefore has a soul" as shorthand for redeemability.
