@itstherespawn: Playing video games could be associated with stronger cognitive performance during adolescence, according to research that followed 260 teenagers in Finland for eight years. The study found that participants who spent more time gaming generally performed better in areas including memory, reaction speed and broader mental processing. The research formed part of the PANIC project, led by researchers from the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Eastern Finland. The teenagers were assessed using CogState cognitive tests, with researchers comparing gaming and other forms of screen-based activity. The results suggest that how teenagers use screens may be more important than simply counting their total screen time. The findings were published in Pediatric Exercise Science by Petri Jalanko and colleagues in a paper titled “Associations of physical activity and sedentary time from childhood to adolescence with cognition in adolescence: The PANIC study.” Researchers still emphasise the importance of combining sedentary activities such as gaming with regular physical activity. #gaming #news #teenager #science
