It followed the title song's huge success and was built as a concept album about working people, mixing Dolly's own writing with a strong set of covers. Critics welcomed its understated pop-country sound as a return to form after her more heavily polished pop records. (9 to 5 and Odd Jobs +2) The album's second single, "But You Know I Love You," is the emotional centre. It's a song about a traveling worker who hates leaving the person they love. Mike Settle wrote it, and it had already been a pop hit for Kenny Rogers & The First Edition and a country hit for Bill Anderson. Dolly's version was released in March 1981 and reached number one on Billboard's country chart that June.
