something that is not general awareness is that anybody can get psychosis. psychosis is a break from reality. I think a good way to think about it is that it's like a distortion pedal. you have sound that goes into an instrument but if there's a distortion pedal the sound goes through the pedal first and what you hear is completely different than the information that went in. psychosis filters the input of the brain and creates a reality for just that person that feels 100% real. that person cannot tell the difference between the reality in their mind and the reality of the world. they don't even tend to see the reality of the world. the delusion of the mind takes over but it feels like it's the real world to them. education doesn't stop psychosis. wealth doesn't stop psychosis. being a doctor doesn't stop psychosis. being any kind of health or medical professional does not stop psychosis. being a man or a woman does not stop psychosis. absolutely anybody can experience it. one thing we do know is that the hormonal changes a woman goes through when her body creates and births a baby can make them tend towards psychosis. similar to how schizophrenia is a condition that can make the brain tend towards psychosis. so there are things that can increase the risk of psychosis but those aren't the only things that can cause it and anybody is susceptible. so it could be you. you. you who are reading this comment right now. you could have a break with reality one day and do something horrific and not because you chose to. and the way you respond to this case can mean that you get compassion and understanding and help that you need or you can be punished for the rest of your life for doing something you didn't choose to do. it's up to you. what kind of world do you want to live in? one where you will be persecuted for having a mind that doesn't function properly, or one where that will be understood to not be your fault and you will get help?
