@wiltshire999s: A lucky escape for the crew on board this Chinook today - after hitting a bird in the Chippenham area. Following the bird strike, the aircraft touched down in a field off the A4 - just 30 metres from the busy road. Dozens of motorists slowed or stopped to get a glimse of the military aircraft, causing some traffic delays and near-misses. An RAF spokesperson said: “A Chinook helicopter from RAF Odiham suffered a birdstrike during a routine training flight. As a precautionary measure the aircraft landed. The crew are uninjured. An engineering team were dispatched from RAF Odiham to assess the damage to the aircraft. We would like to thank the landowners for their patience and assistance whilst we look to rectify the aircraft.” It’s yet not known how long they are expected to remain grounded. #news #aviation #helicopter #military #uktiktok
