I’ve seen good relationships completely fall apart over something that could have been resolved with one honest conversation. Someone hears something. Notices something feels different. Sees something they don’t understand. And instead of going directly to the person involved... They start filling in the gaps themselves. Then they tell someone else. That person adds their interpretation. And suddenly something that was never even true has become an established fact in everyone’s mind. This is why I have so much respect for people who come directly to you. “Brother, I heard this. Is it true?” “You seemed off with me. Have I done something?” “This happened and I wanted to hear your side before making a judgement.” That takes maturity. Because sincere people usually want clarity, not drama. Allah tells us: “If an evildoer brings you any news, verify it…” (Qur’an 49:6) There’s so much wisdom in that. Verify before you judge. Ask before you assume. Speak to someone before you speak about them. Obviously, this doesn’t mean blindly defending people when they’ve genuinely done something wrong. But at least give people the dignity of being asked before you decide who they are. Because sometimes the person you’re angry with has absolutely no idea there’s even a problem. And sometimes years of friendship, family relationships and brotherhood are destroyed over a version of events that never actually happened. A sincere conversation can solve in five minutes what assumptions can destroy for years.
