@andrewmholness: Jamaica’s murder rate has fallen from highs of more than 1,300 murders a year to the point where we are now on track to end this year with fewer than 600. This is the fourth consecutive year of reductions in murders, and we have a clear plan to continue driving the rate down. Our goal is to reach 15 murders per 100,000 people, and ultimately bring it down even further. But behind every number is a Jamaican family. Every life lost leaves a mother, father, child or loved one carrying that pain. We must keep our focus on the victims and on building communities where people can live, raise their families and feel safe. I also want the residents of Luana to know that I hear their concerns. The recent situation will be thoroughly investigated, and anyone found responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable. We cannot turn away from the work of making Jamaica safer.
