The first thing you should explain about the speed of light is that all matter is moving through time at the speed of light. Everything has a forward momentum that never slows down. However, as your movement through space increases, your speed through time slows down. The extreme example is a photon - a particle that only travels at the speed of light and therefore does not experience the passage of time at all.
