@nolahistories: Before you admire the flavor in the pot, remember who built the recipe. 🍲🏾 Gumbo isn’t a trend; it’s a monument to West African culinary genius, ancestral resilience, and Black history. Put some respect on the creators. #BlackCulinaryHistory #CreoleCulture #GumboIsBlackHistory #KnowTheRoots
This is the truth!! Wasn’t no Irish, French or other races in the kitchen holding a peace treaty in the kitchen that came str8 from the Africans who had to use what they had around

Also to add….File’ was from the sassafras root that was indigenous to the south especially Louisiana that is why our gumbo tastes different!!!

Rev. Dr. Shawn Westbrook :
My daddy made the best pralines every weekend for us. And my creole grandfather cooked the most delicious gumbo I’ve ever tasted. My uncle’s won gumbo contest all over the world. Just about everything in this world was built and created on the backs of our ancestors. The European slaveowners did not want to do anything but tell somebody what to do. Our ancestors understood and had a relationship with the plants to grow the food that we eat today.
