The amount of Italian and Dominican communities that don’t even exist anymore are so sad to see because they are the backbones of NYC culture

It’s traumatizing to go back to your childhood neighborhood is completely gone. Ransacked, whitewashed, lifeless and gone….

Thank you sis! They just don’t understand at all. NYC is not a playground for us! This is where OUR families are.

And what they going to do . Once they are 30 years old , they’ll move right back to those suburbs to raise kids and New York will be a hub where people just live for 5 years max .

heavy on the you don’t even say goodmorning to me. their isolation and individualism, the want for power no matter how harmful to others, the entitlement. it’s all so deeply ruining to one’s soul and they wonder why we’re angry😞

Same thing happening in Miami. I use to feel a certain type of way abt NYC implants in FL but in reality we’re in a similar boat😞 People will just go to our beaches n snatch shit up out the water that’s still alive to take it home as a memento, natives priced out and having to move for more wealthy people to take their place. Sad shit

Transplant on here tried to fix they mouth to say New Yorkers the only ones that care abt where they’re from like it was a bad thing. Like ofc we do cuz we HAD to MAKE a LIFE HERE, not a lot of us came from money, there was no just up rooting & moving for the hell of it. Like this is all we know, our whole lives, our culture, our history is here. & to constantly see it continue to be erased hurts, so ofc we care abt being New Yorkers, it isn’t just this label to slap on cuz YOU MOVED HERE. WE GREW UP HERE, there’s a difference, they’re will always be a difference & they will ever understand that & they will never be New Yorkers, never.

This is happening to all major cities. Gentrification destroys communities. The culture around most major cities will be a vapid empty hub at this rate. No flavor or local culture

I felt this with my whole heart! 🥹 It's become sooo spooky!!! I'm the last Black person in my building, and I'm in Bed-Stuy too! Watching the neighborhood change and shift so violently is both disheartening and frightening. My neighbors across the hall have turned over 4x in 6 years, and they're not here to build community, they're here for a good time. It's disgusting how much Black and Brown history is being erased! Then they turn their nose up at the native Black and Brown residents while simultaneously trying on our cultural identity like a fortnite skin. The true definition of energy vampires. It honestly feels like a horror film, the way our culture (our people, places, and things) gets discarded regardless of its significance to us. I find it so interesting that these same gentrifiers have replaced their BLM posters with Palestinian flags. It comes off as pure virtue signaling. They clearly understand what violent displacement and cultural erasure look like, yet they find a way to excuse it when they are the ones benefiting from it. We used to know exactly what type of vibe or experience we would get by going out in particular neighborhoods, but that is deteriorating quickly. And these newbies don't know how to catch or curate the vibes they're displacing, because they're only here for trends and aesthetics.
