@senatorjamie: Should Flock cameras be banned in North Dakota? More of these automated license plate readers are showing up around North Dakota, including here in Fargo, and I have some real concerns about privacy. Fargo Police policy says reasonable suspicion or probable cause is not required to use an ALPR device. At the same time, I understand the public safety argument. These cameras can help Fargo law enforcement find stolen vehicles, locate wanted vehicles and assist in investigations. I tend to err on the side of protecting people’s privacy, but I also see the value of the technology. So where should North Dakota draw the line? Should Flock cameras stay, should North Dakota put tighter restrictions on them, or should we ban them altogether? #NorthDakota #Fargo #FargoND #FlockCameras #NorthDakotaPolitics

We can't just ban Flock. We also need to prevent cities from just switching to Axon or Motorola.
The reports I've seen indicate no real increase in the rate of crime solving. Quite the contrary we instead see rampant abuse and of course false accusations that can result in lawsuits.
Applying the money we use for these cameras towards social welfare programs would have much greater impact in reducing crime.

This is one of those situations where the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'm all for solving crimes, but making everyone a suspect every time they leave their home is much too far. If I were a public defender, I would gladly take a Flock case to the Supreme Court.

In other cities , you could get a speeding ticket just stopped at a red light. Flock will calculate the time it took to get from the previous light to the one you’re stopped at, calculate your speed and mail a ticket if you were over the speed limit .

Cameron is collecting information from your phones everything so that phrase if you’re not doing anything wrong it’s not a matter of doing anything wrong. It’s a matter of your regular conversations you have on your phone texting and other things those cameras capture that

outright ban except MAYBE at the entrances to the town
(on the north and south and on the west of west fargo and the east of Dilworth)
.. but following everyone everywhere they go is way to much.

Just as long as it isn't just getting rid of the Flock name and replacing it with another, almost identical, company like the rest of the cities/states are doing. They're removing the flock name to make the public happy, but just throw another brand that does the same thing.
