Blair could genuinely love Chuck, but that doesn’t mean he was right for the person she became. She grew tired of the games and wanted genuine connection, understanding, and peace. She literally described wanting to sit in her favorite park, look at art, read, and meet someone who would spontaneously talk to her and understand what she was feeling. Then with Dan, she described feeling “strong and safe” with him and saw him as her best friend. Their relationship grew from that understanding. She didn’t have to become less Blair she was still ambitious, dramatic, independent, and completely herself. Chuck was her intense, formative love Dan was the love she grew into wanting.

I don't know if this is silly, but while rewatching the series, I noticed something: in the episode where Blair takes Jenny and Eric to a bar and calls herself "Clair" while flirting with some random guy—well, when Dan arrives at the bar with Serena to look for Eric, he hears that name. Coincidentally, it’s the same name he gives Blair in his book years later. Coincidence?
