@beyond.the.equati54: What if the dinosaur killer came from somewhere… else? The “alien spacecraft” part is science fiction, not an established scientific explanation. What scientists do have strong evidence for is that about 66 million years ago, a roughly 10–14 km-wide asteroid struck near what is now Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. The impact created the Chicxulub crater, about 180 km across, and is strongly linked to the mass extinction that eliminated about 75% of Earth’s species, including the non-avian dinosaurs. The impact would have thrown huge amounts of dust and other material into the atmosphere, disrupted sunlight and climate, and triggered effects such as tsunamis and wildfires. As for “we are the aliens”: there is no scientific evidence that the Chicxulub impactor was a UFO or that humans originated from an extraterrestrial spacecraft. Scientists can reconstruct the impact from geological evidence, but the idea of an alien craft remains a speculative thought experiment. #space #Astronomy #universe #asteroid #dinosaurs
