Been here 20 years, but have never had the gall to claim a native status - sure, ran away from home when I was 17 and clawed together a life for myself away from the hellscape I was born and raised in, but at the end of the day I’m still a Mississippian Sicilian and will always be that. I am fortunate enough to have primarily made my closest friendships/found family with native NYrs so I couldn’t that as close enough lol

I was born and raised here. I moved to LA and lived there for 12 years and never once called myself an Angelino, I was always a NYer and I knew I was a transplant. I’ve been back for 11 years now so how could I have ever been a real Angelino if I didn’t even stay? but especially, that’s not where my roots were, I’m a NYer no matter where I go and it’s same for everywhere

My dad moved here at 10 from Puerto Rico and would never have thought to call himself a native NY-er because he was proud of where he was born. If the Nebraskans and Floridians can't say the same why do they get annoyed with us for pointing out the obvious (that they weren't born or raised here). 🤷♀️

A real New Yorker would only ever call themselves a New Yorker & would NEVER move somewhere else then start saying they are from there. I feel like no one goes to any other state from another state and says they are from that state except New York. Like you are from where YOU ARE FROM.

I would lose my green metro card all the time sooo much so they didn’t want to give me one after 😭😭 not only that it wasn’t full it was like half the fare cause I didn’t live far from the school 🙄😩
