While I love and use so much of what you are suggesting here and have for a while I think the next thing we all need to consider is how much privilege it takes to be where you are now. Having the time/space/capital to buy things ahead, plan, have the ability to buy that 80lbs of chicken, these things all occur bc you aren’t suffering under the poor tax.

We also need to bring bartering back. We lease a field to a local farmer, and get the equivalent of a whole pig per year. It is win win.

Have a plan. And learn to cook. We buy meats we cannot hunt on true sale or manager special. Freeze. Then inventory what we have and build the month’s plan. Any time we have lots of leftovers we scrub the evening’s dinner and it’s fend for yourself with what is already cooked.

I was able to get un-sellable peaches for $20 a lug. I made jam, butter and three more batches are waiting to become canned peaches!

Grandma and mom taught me well! I live alone but every now and then I just get hungry for a good pot roast so I made myself one. Then I had a roast beef sandwich, froze enough for another sandwich. Then I made stew because it was wonderful gravy and I truly love dumplings. I also have half of the stew in the freezer for a later meal.

holiday themed meals don't have to be just for holidays! corned beef around here gets to be almost cheaper than ground beef the day after St Patrick's Day. so we plan accordingly, throughout the year, and we stock up for the whole year because we enjoy corned beef year round. same thing can be said for turkey. turkey does not have to be just for Thanksgiving and you can get it dirt cheap or sometimes even free from most stores during that time when spending x money.
