The call was made when the New Patriotic Party’s Policy Committee on Defense and Interior called the Christian Council of Ghana, where concerns were raised over the impact of drug trafficking and substance abuse on Ghana’s youth, families and communities. Speaking on behalf of the committee,Ranking Member of NPP’s Defense and Interior Policy Committee, Rev. Ntim Fordjour said the fight against narcotics should not be treated solely as a law-enforcement matter, stressing the need for broader national action involving religious bodies, civil society organisations and state institutions. He said, the Christian Council has an important role to play in promoting accountability, integrity and moral leadership, particularly at a time when concerns over illicit drug trafficking have generated public attention.
