How do we still talk about “free education” in Edo State, yet SS1 students in public schools—like Ihogbe College, Benin City—are allegedly being asked to pay as much as ₦40,000 under “registration” and other unclear names like SBNC? Let’s be honest: 👉 Public schools are NOT private businesses 👉 “Free education” must not be free in speech and expensive in practice 👉 Parents should not be decoding hidden levies just to send children to school If these charges are official, then let the Edo State Ministry of Education publish a clear, uniform fee structure for ALL public schools. Because right now: Schools are charging differently Terms are confusing (SBNC, registration, development levy…) Parents are left with no clear explanation This is not transparency. This is not consistency. And it is not in line with the spirit of free education. 🚨 I CALL ON THE EDO STATE GOVERNMENT: ✔ Investigate public schools collecting inflated or unclear fees ✔ Sanction any unauthorized charges ✔ Publish a standard, statewide fee list for public secondary schools ✔ Protect parents from financial exploitation in the name of school administration Education should be a right, not a financial puzzle.
