@allisonsmith732: Property taxes went from under $5000 a year to over $25,000 in under 10 years!

If it was a gift, how can it be under the power of sale that doesn’t make sense

Setting someone up for failure is crazy! Why on earth does this lottery think an average person could afford the water, hydro, gas and property taxes?! Like out a regulate house that people. An afford. It’s more realistic!! They could have like 15 houses for that! That’s crazy. This lottery is not to help people it’s to disappoint them

The house was mortgage free - WTF that it is now on a power of sale. No matter the price- condos will be affecting the view and congestion will be too much - the noise from You by street and from condo construction will be insane

They probably took out a line of credit against it and defaulted

I wonder what the insurance, lighting and heating costs are? Likely very $$$ upkeep, plus taxes!

Usually people try to sell it right away after winning it because it costs a lot of to maintain the home. Especially taxes and bills.

All these comments 🙄 Just because the house was once a prize 15 years ago in the PML, doesn’t mean it’s the winners that own the home now, duh

doesn't make sense. power of sale is when the bank asks only for the amount owing. there no money owing!! it was a prize. be careful guys watch for scams.

You can walk to the future subway. This property will be worth so much more when the subway is completed. I would consider this an investment property. Even rent it out to a celebrity that hardly uses it.

Imagine winning this home 15 years ago and not cashing in on the sale when the housing prices went crazy

I thought “power of sale” wasn’t allowed in Canada? If it was , then the price of the house would only be the remaining balance of the mortgage/loan and not full/reduced value of the house ifself ??

I wonder if it makes more sense to do 4-5 homes that are more reasonable family homes for these prizes, I always wondered when people won these how they were able to afford the upkeep and property taxes.

No one said it was the original winners who are losing this house. They sold it after winning it in 2012.

That’s sad:( Property tax got away on them. I think property tax should be a max of 1.5% per year.
