As someone who attended special education as a child, I’ve been saying that this way of treating neurodivergent kids hasn’t disappeared—it’s just mutated; in many cases, special education teachers still make us feel inadequate, or like we’re just being dramatic or crybabies. I stopped using the word for that very reason
