In May 2007, Kenya Airways Flight 507 (a newly delivered Boeing 737-800) took off from Douala, Cameroon, in the middle of a pitch-black night while navigating around severe thunderstorms. Jolted in the darkness and completely confused, the panicked captain grabbed the controls and accidentally steered the plane even further to the right instead of leveling it out. The 737 rolled almost completely upside down and entered a fatal spiral dive, plunging into a dense mangrove swamp just miles from the airport and killing all 114 people on board.
