@natestinyspoon: If your baby is starting solids at 6 months, IRON should be one of the first nutrients on your mind 🩸 Iron is one of the most important nutrients for a growing baby because it helps carry oxygen through the body AND supports brain development, learning, growth, and the immune system. 🧠✨ For the first few months of life, babies are born with iron stores. But around 6 months, they start needing a reliable source of iron from food too. That’s why iron-rich first foods matter so much when starting solids. Low iron can eventually lead to iron-deficiency anemia, and babies with low iron may become: 😴 More tired or weak 😣 Fussiness and tantrums 🧠 At risk for problems with learning, attention, and development if deficiency continues Some of my favorite iron-rich foods for a 6 month old baby: 🥩 Beef and other meats 🍗 Chicken or turkey 🥚 Eggs 🫘 Lentils + beans 🥣 Iron-fortified baby oatmeal 🌱 Tofu And a little mom hack: pair plant-based iron foods with vitamin C foods like strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes, or berries to help baby absorb more iron. 🍓 Starting solids isn't just about getting your baby to try 100 different foods. It's about making those foods COUNT 💪 I use @tummi to find iron-rich foods for babies, see how to safely prepare them by age, and track what my baby has already tried 🧡 Save this if you're a new mom starting solids with your 6 month old baby — you'll want to come back to it. 🫶 #startingsolids #6montholdbaby #babyfood #babyledweaning #newmom
