@interstellarupdates: Watch an 82% Earth-like world scientists flagged as possibly better for life than Earth Take a closer look at KOI-5715.01, a planet candidate spotted by NASA's Kepler telescope. In 2020 a team of researchers named it one of 24 "superhabitable" candidates, worlds that could in theory be even friendlier to life than Earth. It scores 82% on the Earth Similarity Index. In this simulation it has 3.9 times Earth's mass, yet the surface gravity is only 1.05G, so you would weigh almost the same as at home. The air holds oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapour at 1.4 times Earth's pressure. Lakes of liquid water are spread across the surface, and the average temperature is 16.23°C, just about one degree warmer than Earth. About the data: KOI-5715.01 is still a candidate, not a confirmed planet, so its existence has not been fully verified. The "superhabitable" label comes from a 2020 study (Schulze-Makuch et al., Astrobiology) and is a ranking of potential, not evidence of life. The atmosphere, temperature, lakes and life shown here are SpaceEngine's simulation. SpaceEngine also lists an age of about 12 billion years, which conflicts with published estimates of roughly 5.5 billion years for its star, so treat the simulated values as illustrations, not measurements. Explore the universe with Cosmos Updates, closer to distant planets, moons, stars and galaxies than ever before. Visualised in SpaceEngine. Scenes are simulations based on available data, not real photos. #KOI571501 #Superhabitable #Exoplanet #EarthLikePlanet #SuperEarth
