@vursepostss: GOO GOO DOLLS — “IRIS” 🌧️🎸 Some songs become hits. Others become memories. And then there are songs like “Iris” — songs that seem to grow more powerful with every passing generation. In 2004, the Goo Goo Dolls returned to their hometown of Buffalo, New York, for a rain-soaked Fourth of July concert. As the rain poured down, thousands of fans stayed in place while Johnny Rzeznik performed one of the most beloved songs of the ’90s. The weather, the crowd, and the emotion turned the performance into something far greater than a typical live rendition. Originally written for the 1998 film City of Angels, starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan, “Iris” quickly became the defining song of the Goo Goo Dolls’ career. Rzeznik’s vulnerable vocals, haunting melody, and unforgettable guitar work captured a feeling that was impossible to ignore. The song became a massive radio success, spending a then-record 18 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart. But its true legacy goes far beyond statistics. “Iris” became a song people attached to memories — first loves, heartbreaks, lonely nights, old friendships, and moments they could never quite explain. Decades later, those opening notes can still transport listeners back to another time. And that is what makes this Buffalo performance so special. It wasn’t just a band performing its biggest hit. It was a hometown crowd standing together in the rain, singing along to a song that had already become part of their lives. Some songs belong to a decade. “Iris” belongs to everyone who has ever felt something they couldn’t put into words.
