@roshellezielinski: Every time I go foraging, I realize just how much there is still to learn. On our recent foraging walk with @naturelovehabits, we came across quite a few different mushrooms some edible, some toxic, and plenty that were simply worth stopping to observe. Mushrooms are one area of foraging I’m still learning, so a big thank you to @use_your_wings for the mushroom lesson along the way. I was taking it ALL in. There’s so much more to identification than just looking at the cap. One thing I’m learning is to pay attention to the entire mushroom: the cap, gills or pores, stem, texture, bruising or color changes, where it’s growing, nearby trees and other identifying characteristics. And when it comes to wild mushrooms, proper identification matters. Some edible species have toxic look-alikes, so never eat a mushroom based solely on a photo, an app, or one identifying feature. When you’re unsure, leave it right where you found it and learn from it instead.
