@ellinayin: @cityofsanjose is releasing their Project Uniform Standards for data centers: Date: Thursday, October 15, 2026 Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Location: San José City Hall, Council Chambers 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San José Online: Via Zoom (bit.ly/SJDCStandardsOct15) and YouTube
Does anyone understand why they’re trying to make it sound like it’s a good thing to consume so much energy? Like what is the point of being the city that consumes the most? Definitely doesn’t sound worthy of praise, it sounds greedy. What does the increased consumption afford?

I’ll be honest I have a data center right across the street from my house on lundy that I never even knew was there. I don’t hear noises, my water hasn’t been affected or anything. I’m not sure exactly what’s happening to other people but im not really experiencing it

Why even bother with separating buildings to stay under the 100MW limit? They should just rip the mask off and say “we’re basing our energy usage at the individual outlet level”

I work for a different public utility and a colleague of mine once astutely said, “When commercial customers don’t like the rules, they move their businesses. When government customers don’t like the rules, they change the rules.” What’s happening here feels like those things colliding.

So did I just hear data centers can run 99 back up generators before they are considered a “power plant” so they don’t have a to pay taxes

Meanwhile, PG&E rates have recently increased dramatically. Supply and demand up, prices up, and will be exacerbated by data centers.

Didn’t the government just cut the emissions bill or standards I don’t know if that’s working in California, but that means that the generators that they put in don’t have to meet the California mission standards. Just a question.

The video I watched before this was how we have an infrastructure issue. Data centers are not bringing in more taxes or revenue when Mahan sells them at a low rate. So add that issue on top of every other issues these DCs have.
