My theory is that their soul was overtaken by their ego the moment their psyche split at the point where it couldn't take the abuse/rejection from their parents/caregivers anymore. The soul remains dormant and atrophied under the ego for life. This is why they have no sense of self so are unable to self reflect. There is no self, only ego.

I completely agree: they mimic the behavior and mannerisms of people within their social circle (I.e., acceptable behavior). However, on the other hand, they can have a secret double life, where they dispose of social norms, and “acceptable behavior.” Over the years, they cultivate multiple personas, depending on who they’re socializing with.
