It’s called a mechanic’s lien. Unfortunately, I’ve had to use them before with people. The cop would have no jurisdiction or authority in this case except to back the mechanic

That’s why I’ve said for years. Cops should have to go to law school, not saying to learn everything, but to learn what they would might run into every day out on the street.
