@no_way_this_is_real_: During the 1866 Memphis Massacre, seven men, two of them police officers, forced their way into Frances Thompson's home and attacked her and her 16-year-old housemate Lucy Smith at gunpoint. Both women testified before Congress. Frances became the first known transgender woman to do so. Ten years later, Memphis arrested her for "being a man dressed in women's clothing," sentenced her to 100 days on an all-male chain gang, and a local paper declared she "probably lied." Nobody disproved her. Lucy's sworn account of the same night still stands. They didn't answer her evidence.
