The church fathers and saints knew much more than we do today therefore holding similar views and positions to them is a very good way to do apologetics, no to mention you can mix quotes and scripture to get your point across.

Y no way I'm actually glad I had no real background when I was looking for God. I had a Quran, bible, Buddha and Hindu texts etc. and I was just simply looking through books. I did not know about denominations, I had no clue there was a church history, I learned everything straight from the Bible and when I found other people that came to the same conclusions after years of research I realized I was being guided from the beginning to have had so much knowledge by simply reading. It saddens me that people would rather study Church history or "fathers" then the living breathing word of God that discerns every thought we have

Man, I appreciate you saying this so much. The quote farming from antiquity can become unbearable, and almost every single time becomes an argument solely dependent upon appealing to authority, specifically, authority in the title “church father”, as opposed to authority in veracity. The church fathers unequivocally depended upon scriptures, a tradition that Catholics have ironically lost over the centuries past.

This isnt a problem necessarily. I hold that eternal security (OSAS) is epistemically incoherent or at the very least epistemic nihilism. Which means by way of abduction, its most likely the case scripture doesnt hold this position. This is a case of not "arguing from scripture only" because its beyond the contents of it specifically

I feel like there’s a common thread of pride in lineage among various theologies all the way back to the Pharisees. As though Jesus didn’t fight the same battle pointing to scripture even though it was literally God, He points to the scripture.
