Fun fact! we study this in psych, and it actually says A TON about the person making claims. Our brains are naturally wired to try to understand our environment, so when someone is met with a quiet person they can't quite figure out, their brains do one of two things: A healthy, secure person will see a quiet person, and either inquire, or leave them be. An insecure or emotionally unstable person is not emotionally strong enough to accept that, so they fill in the blanks with what they dislike in themselves, or are insecure about. When someone assumes "you think you're better than me" it's oftentimes because they either A) go quiet around people they deem inferior, or B) have a deep-seated insecurity of everyone judging their every move, and project that onto you to fill in the blanks.
