You see, I like epithets because I get so tired of reading the character's name over and over again. I think epithets bring some variation into the story and I appreciate it for breaking up the repetition of a story

Epithets are best used on UNNAMED characters. "I couldn't help staring at the raven-haired boy" is fine, until you learn that his name is Jeff and then you just gotta say "I couldn't help staring at Jeff"

my biggest pet peeve is when a fic is supposed to be set outside of the usa but everything the characters do is american 😭 theyll pay in dollars and eat pancakes for every breakfast meanwhile the characters are japanese and the fic takes place in japan. its like people assume american culture is universal 😭😭
