@inventionontt: Original Video Credit: X/Texas_jeep__guy Horses regularly pass gas as part of normal digestion, especially as microbes ferment fibrous plant material in the large intestine. Unlike many animals, however, horses have anatomical features that make bringing stomach contents back up through the esophagus extremely difficult. A strong lower esophageal sphincter, combined with the angle at which the esophagus enters the stomach and other anatomical factors, effectively prevents horses from vomiting or belching. Gas produced farther along the digestive tract therefore moves through the intestines and is eventually expelled through the rectum. Passing gas is a normal consequence of the horse’s hindgut fermentation system, but excessive gas accumulation can become painful and contribute to certain forms of colic. Normal intestinal movement is therefore important for continuously moving gas and digestive material through the gastrointestinal tract. No copyright infringement intended.
