As someone with a past issue of opioid abuse, don't let your pain get out of control due to fear of getting re-addicted. There is a healthy and safe way to use them. Have someone coming in on a regular basis to monitor your usage.

For future pain meds in hospital, maybe they can do Toradol? It’s stronger than ibuprofen but still an NDAID and not an opioid.

I had Demerol once and it knocked me out within a minute. Dilaudid is great for me. It helps me with the pain but doesn’t knock me out right away. I can still function.

They likely pushed pain meds while you were under anesthesia. If taking Ibuprofen, take Acetaminophen simultaneously

It should be in your chart. I hate health care in Vegas this is why I drive to Utah for surgery cuz doctors know only time they give me any pain meds is just before I go into surgery after surgery nothing at all which is in my chart cuz I did get addicted to opioid meds

um the doctor should of 100% discussed stuff with the nurses or had something in you're charts.. yah huge issue!

Always communicate the plan with everyone before going under. In my experience.... people suck at checking charts and I've been given something that was in my chart I'm allergic to.

I am deathly allergic to Demerol. I had to literally grab a nurse’s wrist to stop him mid plunge, whilst he was about to push it in my IV for pain after a procedure. I was so nervous after that, that I called my friend and she stayed with me like 24 hours straight and watched them like a hawk, afterwards. I was like WTH? Do you not read charts and look at armbands?

Demerol is rarely used anymore. It actually works the best for me, but I can never get it. If you really need the pain meds, don't be afraid to use them.
