I actually love that they wrote Pam this way 😅 I think a lot of people can relate to her because she isn’t necessarily lacking ambition — she just doesn’t have much confidence in herself. The people around you can really shape how you see yourself, and being with someone like Roy, who constantly put her down, clearly affected her, being surrounded by someone who doesn’t expect much from you, it can become difficult to even recognise what you’re capable of. Even when she had Jim supporting and believing in her, she still had to learn how to believe in herself and actually take the steps to pursue what she wanted. I think that’s what makes her character feel so real, i dont thjnk she was ambitious it was within her but had been dog piled by life

What about all her murals she did in the later seasons? She did end up pursuing her art and did several big murals, including one for the city. Her art career was part of her character growth

Roy also kind of crushed her spirit during their long relationship. The Roy glazing in the later eps pissed me off because like yeah maybe Pam was holding him back but he was also bad partner lmao that could’ve taken a toll on her heavy mentally.

She also struggled with self sabotage. As soon as she realized art was harder than she thought, she stopped trying. It’s ok to decide it’s not for her, but I think she was afraid to ever push through discomfort.

I always took Roy becoming a better person at the end of season nine to be kind of sad. Like Pam, realizing that he did have the capability of changing and being with a good husband, but just didn’t do that for her.

this is exactly why I love the character. her personal growth is depicted in a very realistic way. the art show episode demonstrates her desire to expand as a person but its done in this very detached, safe way where shes trying but not really trying because she is convinced that really trying is unrealistic and embarrassing. the change between this ep and the beach day ep where she makes a tiny amount of progress in asserting herself to others is a very realistic leap for someone who is stuck in a place they hate with people they hate but they dont know how to hope for more

I see much of myself in Pam. I’m so scared of change, I keep making excuses as to why I’m comfortable where I’m at. She had a passion, a talent and she let her brain convince her it wasn’t enough & that it’d never go anywhere
