The playlist starts off with “Saira & Me” by Lesbian Space Princess, and honestly, it sounds like the kind of song that was created after someone stared at a glittery space wallpaper for six hours and decided they had discovered music. It has an aggressively specific vibe that feels like it belongs in a completely different universe—literally. The song isn’t necessarily unlistenable, but compared with what comes later, it feels like the musical equivalent of being forced to eat the appetizer while knowing the main course is waiting. Then there’s “Who I Am” by Haminations. This one feels like it was designed to play during the end credits of a YouTube animation where everyone learned an important lesson about friendship. It’s energetic, but next to the darker and more atmospheric sound of Don Toliver, it sticks out like wearing a clown costume to a motorcycle rally. The song has personality, but unfortunately, personality isn’t enough to survive the KRYPTONITE test. “Misery.” by pupsies continues the downward spiral. The title already tells you exactly what you’re getting: misery. The song has that dramatic, emotional atmosphere where you can practically hear someone staring out a rainy window thinking about everything that has gone wrong. Compared with the production and vocal style of HARDSTONE PSYCHO, though, it feels much less dynamic. It’s not giving HARDSTONE—it’s giving softstone. And then we reach “It’s me, It’s Verity” by Horror Skunx, which sounds like the musical equivalent of opening a suspicious file called DO_NOT_OPEN_FINAL_FINAL2.exe. The whole aesthetic is built around horror, but instead of making me terrified, it makes me wonder why KRYPTONITE isn’t playing yet. The song might work for someone specifically looking for creepy internet-style music, but on this playlist, it gets absolutely demolished. Finally, “Cry For Me (WA WA WA)” arrives, and by this point the playlist has basically turned into musical whiplash. The energy is completely different from HARDSTONE PSYCHO, and while that can sometimes be a good thing, here it makes the playlist feel like someone shuffled six completely unrelated personalities into the same room and told them to get along. And Then… KRYPTONITE 🐐 Then “KRYPTONITE” by Don Toliver comes on and suddenly the playlist remembers what good production sounds like. KRYPTONITE is the opening track of HARDSTONE PSYCHO, which was released in 2024, and its placement makes sense because it immediately establishes the album’s darker, futuristic, motorcycle-heavy atmosphere. The production is a huge reason it stands out. Don’s vocals float over the instrumental rather than simply sitting on top of it, and the song shifts its energy as it progresses. Even other listeners have specifically praised its atmospheric production and the change in the beat. Most importantly, KRYPTONITE actually sounds like the title HARDSTONE PSYCHO. It has that gritty, nocturnal, futuristic feeling that makes the whole album feel like a world rather than just a collection of songs. So while the other songs on this playlist are fighting for their lives, KRYPTONITE is sitting there wearing sunglasses at night, revving a motorcycle, and wondering why it was ever placed in the same playlist. Final verdict: 🗑️ Saira & Me — respectfully, no. 🗑️ Who I Am — YouTube outro music. 🗑️ Misery. — the title says enough. 🐐 KRYPTONITE — THE GOAT. 🗑️ It’s me, It’s Verity — suspicious file detected. 🗑️ Cry For Me — WA WA WA indeed. KRYPTONITE supremacy. 🏍️🔥
