A heartfelt message for my beautiful mum ❤️ Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to spend time with my mum while I’m out doing my daily chores. Life can be busy, and we all have responsibilities, but our parents are never a burden — they are a blessing and a gift from Allah. We only get one mother and one father, so we must make time for them while we can. The Qur’an reminds us: «“And We have enjoined upon man goodness to his parents.” — Qur’an 29:8» And Allah says: «“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and honour your parents. If one of them or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them even ‘uff,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them in a noble way.” — Qur’an 17:23» My mum has given me so much throughout my life. She raised me, supported me, provided for me, and stood by me from childhood, through school, and all the way until I left to join the army. She worked at Millwall Football Club for 35 years, giving her heart and soul to her job. She has always been a hard grafter — getting up for work, sometimes six or seven days a week — and she is the person I inherited my work ethic from. Sadly, my mum has now been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, and she is going through a lot with her health. She has always been independent and hardworking, so I know it is difficult for her not to work anymore. But she deserves love, patience, care and support every single day. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: «“Paradise lies at the feet of mothers.”» He ﷺ also said: «“The pleasure of Allah is in the pleasure of the father, and the anger of Allah is in the anger of the father.” — Tirmidhi» Looking after our parents is not just an act of love; it is an act of worship. Being good to them is one of the greatest ways to seek the pleasure of Allah. May Allah allow us to honour our parents, serve them with patience, and never take their presence for granted. Mum, I want you to know that you are deeply loved. You have always been there for me, and now it is my turn to be there for you. I pray that Allah grants you complete shifā, strength, comfort, peace and many more beautiful years surrounded by the people who love you. May Allah reward you for every sacrifice you have made, every early morning, every long day, every prayer, every meal, every word of encouragement and every moment you put your family before yourself. I am also grateful to Allah for blessing me with a beautiful wife who continues to support me as I work through the challenges and trauma of my past. Alhamdulillah for every blessing, every lesson and every person Allah has placed in my life. To everyone watching: please make time for your parents. Call them. Visit them. Sit with them. Be patient with them. Love them while you still have the chance. Our parents are not a burden — they are one of Allah’s greatest gifts. Please make dua for my mum. May Allah bless her with the best of health, ease, happiness, protection and abundance.
