He is active and energetic, loves his crinkly toys, leans in for pets, and can be independent. He is a dog who clearly has personality and a desire to connect with people. ARC’s notes describe Tango as jumping extremely high in his kennel for the past week and being reactive to people passing by, barking and charging the front of the kennel. Those behaviors have now placed his life on a deadline. But today, I walked directly up to Tango’s kennel and took this video myself. I did not see one ounce of the kennel stress or reactivity described in the notes. I did not see him jumping, charging, or reacting to me. I saw a dog calmly interacting with me, and it breaks my heart knowing someone could read those notes and immediately assume Tango is an extremely kennel stressed or difficult dog. And there is another part of his profile that deserves consideration. ARC recommends that Tango be the only dog or potentially live with a female. But determining that a dog should or shouldn’t live with other dogs based solely on interactions in a stressful kennel environment can be incredibly unfair. A kennel is not a home, and shelter behavior does not always tell us what a dog will be like once they feel safe. Proper introductions in a neutral environment and time to decompress can tell us so much more. Tango doesn’t need someone to ignore his behaviors. He needs someone willing to look beyond them, give him a chance outside of the shelter environment, and discover who he really is. He has until Wednesday at 5 PM. Please share Tango. Tag rescues.
