Barry Morphew, the Colorado man accused of murdering his wife, Suzanne Morphew, is back behind bars after an alleged hit-and-run — and dramatic video captures the moments before he allegedly drove away. On Aug. 26, Morphew was out on a $3 million bond and under restrictions that generally confined him to his home when authorities say he struck two vehicles in Denver. A witness told police Morphew had been driving “aggressively” before the crashes. Video recorded by Christina, one of the drivers involved, shows her repeatedly asking Morphew for his license and insurance information. Morphew allegedly said he did not have insurance, tried to rub scratches off her vehicle with his hand and T-shirt and offered her $300 for the damage. After Christina refused the money and said she was calling police, court documents allege Morphew drove away, nearly hitting another person and going over a curb as he left. GPS data later showed Morphew had left his home and traveled toward Denver International Airport, where his attorneys said he may have been going to pick up his daughter. Prosecutors argued the trip violated his bond conditions and raised concerns that he could be a flight risk. A judge subsequently ordered Morphew to remain inside his home at all times with “no exceptions.” He was arrested the following night on a warrant for allegedly failing to comply with his bond conditions. Morphew has not been charged in connection with the alleged hit-and-run. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Suzanne, who disappeared on Mother’s Day 2020. Her remains were discovered in 2023, and her death was later ruled a homicide. Watch the encounter that ultimately put Morphew’s freedom in jeopardy. #truecrime
