I think social media has made people more concerned with how their relationship looks than how it actually feels. You can post the flowers. The anniversary dinner. The holidays. The long paragraph about how incredible your husband or wife is. And still be completely miserable when the phone goes away. Because Instagram only sees what you decide to show them. They don’t see how you speak to each other when you’re angry. How quickly you forgive. Whether you genuinely respect each other. Whether your home feels peaceful. Whether you’re there for each other when life becomes difficult. Those are the things that actually determine the quality of a relationship. And none of them require an audience. I’ve reached a stage in my life where I genuinely believe some of the most beautiful parts of a marriage should remain between two people. Not because you’re hiding anything. But because everything meaningful doesn’t need to become content. There’s something special about having memories nobody else saw. Jokes nobody else understands. Conversations nobody else heard. Moments that happened without somebody reaching for their phone. Your relationship doesn’t become more valuable because thousands of strangers think you’re couple goals. And posting your spouse doesn’t automatically mean your relationship is unhealthy either. The problem is when you start needing the post. Needing people to see it. Needing the comments telling you how lucky you are. Needing an audience to reassure you that what you have is special. Because eventually you can become so busy convincing everybody else that you’re happy... You stop asking whether you actually are. Build a relationship that feels beautiful behind closed doors.
