@tomtheweatherwizard: THE IRAN WAR IS CHANGING GLOBAL CARBON EMISSIONS. An unexpected consequence of the ongoing conflict with Iran is a projected decline in global fossil-fuel CO₂ emissions in 2026, according to an analysis published by The Washington Post on September 24. Here's what's happening: Disruptions to oil and natural gas production and transportation have driven up energy prices and reduced global consumption. As a result, countries and consumers are using less oil and gas than analysts originally anticipated. Earlier this year, global fossil-fuel CO₂ emissions were projected to increase in 2026. However, updated energy forecasts now suggest emissions could fall approximately 0.5% below 2025 levels. The Washington Post estimates that the latest emissions outlook is approximately 472 million metric tons of CO₂ lower than the projections made in January. That's roughly equivalent to the annual emissions of 103 million gasoline-powered cars. There is an important catch: Higher natural gas prices have also encouraged some countries to burn more coal, partially offsetting the reductions in oil and gas emissions. And while lower emissions could slow the accumulation of CO₂ in the atmosphere, this does not mean global warming has stopped or that the conflict represents a long-term climate solution. The bigger question is whether reduced fossil-fuel consumption will continue after the conflict ends or whether emissions will rebound as energy markets recover. Late stage capitalism has destroyed the economy to the point that people can't afford to pollute anymore 😂
It's a shame that once they push through all these data centers, they'll do significantly more harm than what we avoided in lower fuel emissions

right, because lack of import/export from airplanes, boats, and convoys due to lack of oil and fuels, is forcing the idea of hey maybe we shouldn't rely on oil to be the main thing for infrastructure.

Unfortunately, people are gonna think that it’s a good idea instead of just working towards better society lowering gas emissions through non-destructive ways while working towards world peace

Oh this is the dawn of investment in local infrastructure for energy and hopefully (with new congressional leadership) growing food more locally.

The west is destroying the fossil fuel industry through their endless wars, going bankrupt securing stranded oil assets, and China is poised to replace the world energy system with cleantech and renewables. It’s how these things go, how empires decline and then suddenly collapse.

Well, when things come to a grinding halt, and then move very slow slowly of course this happens. The only thing that’s good from this is that it is proof that we should move away from fossil fuels. Once things get back to normal or they decide that they own it so they’re gonna distribute how they want, that number is gonna go back up.

Also going to make gas and diesel so expensive that changing to EVs and renewables will basically be required for governments and people in the market for new cars
