It's canon according to the writers so it's canon in the show. If it wasn't canon last episode wouldn't have Dean willingly choosing death and going to heaven Cas made, he would have been on earth marrying a woman or whatever but the writers deliberately chose to not go to that direction.

What gets me about Destiel is that they never would have happened even if Cas was a woman. He would have been killed off or been a one-off character as initially planned if he was a woman. He would’ve been one of Dean’s conquests (which literally did happen with Anna) at most. Moreover, canonically, this is the only universe where he rebelled. This was literally their only chance and it was the closest they would ever get.
