Good points. To me though, message vs. vibe is more of an aesthetic choice than a value marker — art doesn't lose worth either way. It's not supposed to be a scientific discovery, it's open to however someone wants to interpret it. What actually devalues it for me isn't message-or-no-message, it's authenticity — is this you, or is it manufactured to sell. That's the line I care about.

I think too many labels have focused exclusively on formulas of what works. A particular song length, cadence, structure and that’s what makes a song soulless when everything coming out is the same
