@medtok.01: RAAS — The Body’s Blood Pressure & Fluid Balance System The Renin–Angiotensin–Aldosterone System (RAAS) is a powerful hormonal system that helps your body regulate blood pressure, blood volume, and sodium–water balance. When blood pressure or blood flow to the kidneys falls, the kidneys release renin. This starts a cascade: 🔹 1. Renin — converts angiotensinogen into angiotensin I. 🔹 2. ACE — mainly in the lungs and other vascular tissues, converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II. 🔹 3. Angiotensin II — causes vasoconstriction, narrowing blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. 🔹 4. Aldosterone — angiotensin II stimulates the adrenal cortex to release aldosterone. Aldosterone increases sodium reabsorption in the kidneys, and water follows sodium, helping increase blood volume. 🔹 5. ADH & thirst — angiotensin II also promotes thirst and supports ADH release, further helping the body retain water. 🧠 The big picture: Low blood pressure → Renin → Angiotensin II → Vasoconstriction + Aldosterone → Sodium & water retention → Increased blood volume and blood pressure. This system is essential for maintaining homeostasis, but excessive or persistent RAAS activation can contribute to conditions such as hypertension and heart failure. 🎥 Watch the video to see this incredible hormonal cascade in action! 🔥 Hashtags #RAAS #ReninAngiotensinAldosteroneSystem #Renin #AngiotensinII #Aldosterone
