At 4 months post hair transplant, I honestly didn’t see a lot of visible growth from a normal distance. So I decided to take a closer look under a microscope to see what’s actually happening. What I can see are very thin, tiny hairs starting to come through. They’re shorter, finer, and slightly lighter in color than my natural hair. This is completely normal at this stage. Around month 4, transplanted follicles are just coming out of the dormant (telogen) phase. After surgery, most of the transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, this is called shock loss. The follicles then rest for a while before starting to produce new hair again. The first hairs that grow back are: • Very thin • Soft and wispy • Sometimes lighter in color • Uneven in length They don’t match the thickness or color of your existing hair yet because they’re still immature. As the months go on (usually months 6–9), these hairs thicken, darken, and become stronger. That’s when density really starts to improve. So if you’re at month 4 and it still looks patchy or slow, that’s normal. The growth is happening, it’s just not fully developed yet. This stage is more about patience than results.
