@faithinchristlife: If I do not have money to give, can God still be pleased with me? Many Christians are afraid to say this out loud. Some people in church may even treat you differently because of this. But that is a worldly way of looking at things, not God’s way. So what does God truly value? First, does giving a lot always mean you are obeying God? Saul once kept the best sheep and cattle and said they were going to be offered to God. That sounds spiritual, doesn’t it? But God rebuked him. Why? Because he offered a sacrifice, but he did not obey God. First Samuel 15:22 says: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” First Samuel 15:22, KJV So no matter how much you give, you cannot use giving to replace obedience. Second, if you give very little, does that mean God does not value you? The Lord Jesus once saw a poor widow put in only two mites. To people, what she gave looked very small. But Jesus praised her. Why? Because God does not only look at the amount. He looks at the heart. So if you truly do not have the ability to give much right now, do not think that God is displeased with you because of that. God does not measure you by how much money is in your pocket. Third, this is the question we really need to ask ourselves: Do I give because I love God and want to obey Him? Or do I give because I am afraid: “If I do not give more, God will not bless me”? If someone can give a lot, but is unwilling to repent, unwilling to obey, and unwilling to live according to God’s Word, can the money they give replace their obedience? No. Giving itself is not wrong. But giving cannot replace repentance. It cannot replace obedience. And it cannot replace genuine faith.
